A dozen district staff members and students were recognized at a Black History Month Celebration, held Feb. 28 at the Community Presbyterian Church. JFK Associate Principal Shaun McLeod; teachers Lynne Connors, Brianne Hertzog, Amina Kennedy and Kevin Marner; social workers Kescha Correa, Francine Fair, Carol Miller-Douglas and Andrea Nelson-Williams; and high school students Kamani Clinkscales, Brandon Gilbert and Jonathan Gordon were all honored. The event, hosted by Rev. Da’Shun Burrell, celebrated black educators of the past, present and future and featured performances by the 3D Dance Studio and singers Jayreiss St. Bernard and Renee Williams as well as remarks from Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly.

“Working so tirelessly, you have made us the better persons we are today by all of the love you have shared and all of the effort you have poured into us,” Burrell said in congratulating the honorees.
