A total of 26 of the high school’s DECA students traveled to the Riverside Convention Center in Rochester in February to compete against 2,000 other business students from across the state at the 60th annual DECA New York State Career Conference.
Ten Deer Park DECA students earned top 10 test medal trophies: James Hope (Food Marketing), Ryder Min (Principles of Marketing), Huda Nawaz (Principles of Finance), Omar Rahim (Human Resources Management), Alyssa Robb (Restaurant & Food Service Management), Chaim Shames (Professional Selling/Marketing), Keryn Shames (Hospitality & Tourism/Professional Selling), Jessica Siford (Hotel & Lodging Management), Nicholas Stamatakis (Principles of Finance) and Gavin Thomas (Restaurant & Food Service Management).
Earning top 10 role play medals were Madison Cadena (Principles of Hospitality) and Omar Rahim (Human Resources Management).
Top 10 overall medal winners included Sameem Ahmadzai (Accounting Applications), Saima Hoque (Business Finance) and Tasfia Shaikh (Retail Merchandising).
Named as top 5 overall trophy winners were Jasleen Kaur (first place in Accounting Applications), Isabella Coon and Logan Eisenberg (fourth place in Financial Analysis Team), and Haley Celona (fifth place in Hotel & Lodging Management).
Ahmadzai, Celona, Coon, Eisenberg, Hoque and Kaur all earned the right to compete in at the International Career Development Conference in Nashville.
Kaur was also elected to serve as New York DECA President for the 2020-2021 school year, and Rahim, Robb and Salim were inducted into the New York DECA Honor Society.
