The high school’s boys basketball team finished the 2019-2020 season as League IV champions and reached the Suffolk County Class AA final four. It was the Falcons’ sixth league title in eight seasons and fifth appearance in the final four during that span. Many individual performances led to team success for Deer Park.
Senior Malik Edmead was named All-League, All-Conference, All-County, All-Tournament team and League IV MVP by the Suffolk County Basketball Coaches Association. He also earned Second Team All-State designation and was voted team MVP by his teammates and First Team All-Long Island by “Newsday.” He will continue his basketball career on a full Division 1 scholarship at Merrimack College.
Freshman Anthony Daley was named All-League and voted League IV Rookie of the Year by the SCBCA. He also broke the school record for three pointers in a season with 84.
Eighth grader Preston Edmead was named All-League and All-Conference, senior Junius Johnson was named All-Tournament team, and junior Jalen Van Dorn was named Academic All-County.
Daley, Preston Edmead, sophomore Kyle Jefferson, and juniors Matt Myrick and . Jalen Van Doren all earned Scholar-Athlete designation.
Seniors Mark Cordero, Vially Fleuriot and Xavier Gupton Dove were voted winners of the school’s Coaches Award, Sportsmanship Award, and Spirit Award, respectively.
Juniors Nahleaj Delbridge, Zohaib Haq, JaeQuan White and Kevin Yalcinkaya,; sophomore Chance Nelson; freshman Billy Murphy; and eighth grader Danny Murray also helped contribute to the Falcons’ championship.
