Message from Mr. Cobb on Prom and Graduation
I hope that this email finds you all healthy and well and you are enjoying the summer. I wanted to take a moment to provide an update on the two remaining events for the members of the Class of 2020, the Senior Prom, and Graduation.
Senior Prom - Unfortunately the restrictions on the amount of people permitted to gather has not have not eased in the past few weeks. In a normal year, we typically have between 400 -500 students attend our senior prom. Due to this, the Senior Prom will be canceled for 2020. This was not an easy decision to make as this is an event that has been “a right of passage” for students throughout this country for generations. It is just not possible to have an event of this magnitude given the climate and restrictions in our state.
Graduation - I have delayed in writing to you about graduation with the most sincere hope that restrictions would be eased and we would be able to have our traditional graduation ceremony at Deer Park High School on our football field but again, this is an event that we will have to modify to adhere to current laws and social distant guidelines. We will be having multiple graduation ceremonies that adhere to Governor Cuomo’s guidelines. We will be having these ceremonies over multiple evenings, on July 30th and July 31st, with a rain date of August 1st. On July 21st I will be sending out the schedule for ceremonies along with other details on how graduation will be held this year.
I thank you for your patience and understanding during the past few months. I realize that it has not been easy for anyone, mostly our students and especially the Class of 2020. Please be on the lookout for my email on July 21st that will provide all of the information needed for our graduation ceremonies. Thank you and have a nice day.
Charlie Cobb
