Three Deer Park High School student-athletes – sophomore Nick Fenton, senior David Hamil and junior Adam Zimmerman – recently earned All-State status.

Fenton, who has competed on the track team since seventh grade, qualified for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships as part of an intersectional medley relay team. Fenton and Section XI teammates Utsav Deshpande of Sachem East, Jacob Robinson of Riverhead and Jacob Kahrs of Walt Whitman earned third-place medals in the meet held Feb. 7 at Cornell University’s Barton Hall in Ithaca.

Hamil, 46-1 as a top Falcons wrestler in the 182-pound weight class, defeated Jake Ashcraft of Burnt Hills in the finals of the New York State wrestling tournament on Feb. 28 at the Times Union Center in Albany.

“It was an amazing feeling to have everyone cheering for me,” said Hamil.

Zimmerman, a member of the Deer Park bowling team since seventh grade, won the NYSPHSAA’s state bowling title on March 8 at at Strike ’N Spare Lanes in Syracuse as part of the Suffolk County All-Star team. It was the third championship in a row for Suffolk, whose athletes bowled a 6,219 over the series’ six games. Zimmerman’s 224.17 average was first overall.

“It’s kind of unreal, as not many kids get to do that,” said Zimmerman.
