High school students Matthew Ferrara, Emily Greene, Daniel Khoshkehpazi, Sumaira Mahmood and Emily Zhang competed in the 2015 Long Island History Day competition held at Hofstra University on March 8. Schools from across Long Island sent students to compete in the first round of National History Day.

The five Deer Park students spent months researching and planning a project based on legacy and leadership. Their research project, “Oprah Winfrey-The Will to Succeed,” placed fifth overall in the exhibit category, with the event judges commenting, “Great job highlighting Oprah as a leader whose legacy is continually growing.”
