Rebecca Fox, an eighth-grader at Robert Frost, will have two of her poems included in “Bards Annual 2015”, the upcoming edition of the yearly poetry anthology of the Bards Initiative, a nonprofit organization that uses poetry to help the Long Island community.

The large paperback book collection, featuring poetry from prominent poets all across Long Island including Rebecca’s mother, Kathryn Fox, will be launched at the Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site in Huntington Station at the end of June.

The only child to be honored with inclusion, Rebecca’s journey began when she accompanied her mother to a reading for breast cancer awareness at Roast Coffee & Tea Trading Company in Patchogue. After her mother’s reading, Rebecca recited at an open mic and was inspired to write the poems, which her mother submitted to Bards.

“We’re incredibly proud of her accomplishment,” said Principal Eliana Levey. “What an amazing feat to be recognized as a poet at such a young age.”
