Vanessa Whitney’s constitutional law class at the high school recently visited Suffolk County Police Department headquarters during National Police Week, interacting with police officers and taking part in DWI and CSI simulations as well as witnessing K-9 dog, EVOC, motorcycle, helicopter rescue and police stop demonstrations. Students were able to examine and use police equipment, such as the SWAT/ERT protective vest, helmet and battering ram.
“Many of the students who take my course have an interest in entering law enforcement, post-graduation,” said Whitney. “This was a great opportunity for a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at the hard work our law enforcement officers do every day, and also allowed the students to interact with and gather first-hand information from the officers.”
