Carnival Caps Off Summer School Season

Students in the district’s summer school program capped off the season by participating in a fun-filled carnival featuring several individual and team-based activities.

The second annual event, held on Aug. 13 at the May Moore Primary School gymnasium, gave students the opportunity to celebrate their efforts and successes throughout the summer. Students from kindergarten through high school level enjoyed activities such as bowling, potato sack hopping, craft stations, clay molding, bean bag tossing, hula-hooping and pinning the tail on the donkey. Each student also received a box of popcorn as a tasty treat for his or her hard work.

“After a summer of learning, attending job sites and working hard each day, the carnival is a way to let the students know that hard work deserves reward,” said John Quincy Adams Primary School teacher Phyllis Senia, who organizes the program.

Deer Park’s summer school program is comprised of various activities and field trips, and facilitated by district teachers, administrators and student volunteers.
