The district has tapped Jachan Watkis as its new curriculum associate for science and technology in grades 6-12. The new administrator replaces Kristen Crespo.

Prior to his hiring at Deer Park, Watkis worked for two years as the director of science in the Hempstead School District, and before that, as the assistant principal for supervision of math, science and CTE at Automotive High School in Brooklyn. He also taught high school science for nine years in Queens. Before entering the educational field, Watkis worked for two years as an analytical chemist in pharmaceutical development.

A graduate of Uniondale High School, Watkis earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from SUNY New Paltz, a Master of Science in Education degree in school counseling from Brooklyn College, and an Advanced Certificate in Educational Leadership from Hofstra University. He currently resides in Miller Place.

“I look forward to sharing in the journey of discovery embarked upon by every student and professional in our schools,” said Watkis.
