In a fabulous field trip, the Robert Frost Middle School Eighth-Grade Orchestra visited New York City’s Lincoln Center on Oct. 21 to watch a rehearsal of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. For 90 minutes, the students witnessed first-hand what a professional group of musicians do to prepare for a performance, and were given the opportunity to ask questions afterward.

The Chamber Music Society was preparing for a performance of George Philipp Telemann’s 1761 “Don Quixote Suite,” which took place the next day.

“Our Frost musicians discovered that the Society’s rehearsal methods were very much like their own rehearsals in school,” said Bradley Murphy, the district’s curriculum associate for fine and performing arts. “Maria Wingert, their orchestra teacher, was very proud of their outstanding behavior and thoughtful questions during the discussion period of the program.”
