Fourteen high school students – Alleigha Brady, Samantha Colon, Joseph DeNoyior, Tori DiTomasso, Anthony Henkel, Averi Lacoff, Alexandra Lane, Nolan Maggio, Jasmine Martin, Destiny Parsons, Danny Santurne, Bianca Taipe, Alejandro Villa-Vasquez and Alec Winters – attended the 19th annual New York State Theatre Education Association Student Conference at the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon, New York.  Winters was one of only five attendees selected to perform in the NYSTEA Student Showcase.

At the weekend event, held from Jan. 8-10, approximately 800 eager students from across the state participated in more than 100 theater workshops including acting, dance, voice, improvisation, stagecraft, fantasy makeup and other opportunities to refine their craft, as well as networking and interacting with peers.

According to Bradley Murphy, the district’s curriculum associate for fine and performing arts, the NYSTEA Student Conference promotes a host of positive attributes and skills, including creativity, innovation, critical thinking, collaboration, adaptability, self-direction, productivity, cross-cultural skills and social responsibility.

NYSTEA, a statewide organization, promotes and supports theater education for students from prekindergarten through high school.
