Six superlative string musicians from Deer Park participated in this year’s Long Island String Festival Association concerts, recognizing them as being among the top string orchestra players in Suffolk County in their age group. LISFA selected these student-musicians based on recommendations from their orchestra teachers and scoring results from last year’s New York State School Music Association Solo Festival.
High school senior violinist Kalvin Guyer and freshman viola player Rebecca Fox, and Frost eighth-grade violinist Catherine Wilkonski performed at LISFA’s Suffolk Secondary concert, held Jan. 31 at Ward Melville High School in East Setauket.
Three younger Deer Park violinists – Frost seventh-grader Gianna Giffone and sixth-grader Alaina Lin, and JFK fifth-grader Ryder Min –played at LISFA’s Suffolk Elementary concert, held Jan. 17 at Smithtown West High School.
“This festival offered our musicians the opportunity to continue to hone their craft as they worked toward an incredible concert program, seated among the best Long Island has to offer,” said Bradley Murphy, the district’s curriculum associate for fine and performing arts.
