The art room at John F. Kennedy Intermediate was filled with the sight of dragons during the last week of January. Art teacher Laurie Schwartz introduced several classes to the traditions of Chinese New Year and guided the students in making their own dragon masks.

“During this Chinese holiday, family members get together and celebrate by sharing long noodles that symbolize a long life, egg rolls that symbolize gold and wealth, and many other traditional dishes,” said Schwartz, who worked with the classes over several days to help them finish the project. “The students learned the traditional importance of the color red and the legends associated with dragons.”
