With an outstanding time of 1:57, junior Nick Fenton placed fifth in his race and 16th overall in the boys 800-meter Emerging Elite event at the 2016 New Balance National Indoor track competition, held March 11 at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City.

Fenton ran against athletes from all over the country, including Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee, as well as Canada. It was the first time since Joe Parks in 2006 that a Deer Park runner qualified for and competed in the national championship meet.
