Three young artists at JFK were recently recognized as prizewinners in the annual Covanta recycling poster contest, whose theme this year was encouraging people to recycle. In the grades 1-3 category, Isabella LaPuerta won first place and Nicolette Troisi won third, while Hanna Rau earned the grand prize in the grades 4-6 category.
“In art class, we talked about effective poster design, and then the kids completed the posters on their own,” said teacher Laurie Schwartz.
The winning JFK trio will be honored with trophies, certificates and prizes at a May 24 ceremony at the Covanta factory. The school also received a $1,000 Barnes and Noble gift card as a prize for its students’ artistic achievement.
