Like many English teachers at the high school, Scott Carney incorporates his talents into his teaching. During one of his recent Advanced Placement literature classes, Carney performed his song “Eclipse,” using his guitar and vocal skills to help his students understand the concept of tone.

“I like to use this song – which I wrote several years ago while a member of a local Celtic rock band – as part of a discussion about tone because it gives me the opportunity to bring the voice on the page to life and to speak to my students about my approach and my intent,” said Carney. “Analyzing tone in writing is tough; this is one strategy that I’ve implemented to make it a little less difficult.”
