Six high school students in Otilia Mendiolaza’s College Spanish class participated in the Americas Poetry Festival, held at the Walt Whitman Museum in Huntington on Oct. 13 in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The students recited the poetry of Walt Whitman and other poets, both in Spanish and translation. Poets from Spanish-speaking countries around the world participated in this international poetry festival; recitations included both classical selections and original poems created by the Deer Park students.
