The Town of Babylon recently presented district bus driver Larry Hickam with the Heroism Award in a special ceremony at the district’s transportation office. Hickam, a Deer Park resident and Vietnam veteran, had saved a disabled man’s life, helping to rescue the man from a wheelchair stuck at a railroad crossing, earning Hickam high commendation and the town’s top honor.
Along with Superintendent of Schools Eva Demyen, in attendance at the Feb. 6 ceremony were Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Town Councilman Anthony Manetta, Town Councilman Terry McSweeney, Town Clerk Gerry Compitello and Assistant School Transportation Supervisor Pat Shea.
