JFK Measures with Math for Chinese New Year
At JFK, classroom teacher Christine MacQuarrie, AIS math provider Rosanne Alfieri and teaching assistant Randi Cortina teamed up last month to host a Chinese New Year celebration.

The trio of educators incorporated cultural awareness as well as math lessons, enabling students to help prepare egg drop soup, lo mein and fried rice to celebrate the holiday. The children read recipes and learned how to use measurement skills such as calculating cups, teaspoons, pounds, ounces and temperature.

“It was a great afternoon with delicious food and learning about math and culture,” said Alfieri.
