Deer Park Celebrates Poetry Month with Fabulous Festival

On April 27, Deer Park held its fourth annual International Poetry Festival, a multicultural celebration of National Poetry Month. Performing poets came from all five of Deer Park’s schools, originate from countries all over the globe and speak a multitude of languages. Students recited poetry in multiple languages, sang songs demonstrating poetic rhythm and performed dances representing various cultures.

“We hold this festival each year, as we have such a wonderfully diverse group of students in our programs,” said Ashley Rosenberg, district administrator for ENL and world languages. “Deer Park celebrates Poetry Month by integrating poetry instruction into curriculum districtwide. Our department places a particular emphasis on poetry because we strive for our students to practice language and deepen their understanding of culture through poetry, song and dance.”
