Falcon Fuel Takes Off at High School

Students in Gabriella Gilmartin’s life skills class at the high school recently opened a Falcon Fuel coffee business on Fridays, providing them with the opportunity to develop meaningful social relationships throughout the school community.

“This project teaches students about entrepreneurship, serving others, functional academics, hygiene, food safety and building communication skills through work experiences,” said Gilmartin. “It’s really an exciting venture. The students are driven to build their business and meet new people in our building. I am truly in awe of the skills they’ve developed in such a short amount of time, and both students and teachers look forward to their Friday morning coffee.”

The Falcon Fuel coffee service is mirrored by a similar initiative at Robert Frost, the equally successful Friday coffee service known as Burkel’s Brew Club.

“As a district, we are beyond proud of what the students and staff of these two programs have accomplished, and their invaluable contributions to our school community,” said David DePrima, the district’s administrator of secondary special education.
