The district recognized community member and parent Rashika Hettiarachchi at the Jan. 22 board of education meeting for her $800 donation to teacher Christine Garcett’s Aiming Higher enrichment program at May Moore Primary School. Hettiarachchi received a certificate of appreciation from Garcett and May Moore Principal Alicia Konecny.

The Aiming Higher program, which Hettiarachchi’s son Nicholas attends, meets for weekly sessions in the school library, learning basic coding and participating in fiction and nonfiction book discussions while also working on higher order comprehension skills. The donated funds will be used to purchase materials that require students to think critically, problem solve and collaborate with peers.
