Keeping healthy and making good choices were the themes as students at Copiague’s Deauville Gardens East Elementary School participated in the school’s Run Against Drugs on Oct. 24. Leading up to the run, which was held in part with Red Ribbon Week activities, students in kindergarten through fifth grade learned of the negative effects of drugs and alcohol during their physical education classes. Following the 300-meter run, the students tied red ribbons on the fence bordering the school field to spell out “Red Ribbon Week.” Additionally, each student was presented with a bracelet—provided by the PTA—which reads, “The best me is drug free.”
