The District, as part of an ongoing effort to connect the curriculum with current events, supported a district-wide live broadcast of President Barack Obama’s Inauguration. Each school hosted various Internet streams for students to experience and interact with the swearing in of the new president and vice president, as well as discuss the festivities that marked this event.
Tailored for each grade level, the lessons and activities prepared students for what would take place in Washington, DC and throughout the country. Students learned about the historical and cultural significance of the day by reviewing the ceremony proceedings, taking notes, completing worksheets associated with the event, and analyzing the president’s proposals to restore the economy, improve healthcare, and his views on other domestic and foreign policies. They also listened to and analyzed President Obama’s Inaugural address.
