Guard Start – Lifeguard Readiness
 
Guard Start lays a foundation for future participation in Red Cross Lifeguarding courses, and contains lessons on topics such as prevention, fitness, response, leadership and professionalism. This course does NOT certify anyone as a lifeguard. Guard Start is designed for swimmers who have completed 5th grade, through age 14 years. The following skills are pre-requisites that must be tested or verified prior to enrollment:

• Swim the front crawl (freestyle)  non-stop with correct rhythmic breathing a minimum of 2 pool lengths
• Tread water for 1 minute using correct arm and leg movements.
• Submerge and swim underwater 3-4 body lengths

Summer 2011 Course:
Tuesday-Friday ONLY (No classes on Mondays) 
8:30-9:30  AM July 5th-22nd.
Enrollment is limited and will be first come, first enrolled upon successful completion or verification of the pre-requisite skills. Deadline for registration and payment is July 1st.  Please do not write any checks until skills are verified.
Fees include separate costs for; training materials and Red Cross fees ($20 each participant), and facility fees (Deer Park Resident $40.00 / Non Resident $80.00) Totaling $60 Deer Park Resident and $100 Non-Residents
