Volunteer Program

The objective of this program is to provide an experience for students ages 12-18  who have completed, or can demonstrate completion skills for the advanced levels of Learn to Swim and who may have an interest in someday becoming a swimming instructor. Participants may attend workshops and / or assist with programs throughout the year such as the Polar Bear Recreation swim and Youth Learn to Swim classes as a part of this program. Participants may complete the skills for Water Safety Instructor Aide after gaining experience assisting with the first five progressive levels of the Learn to Swim program and demonstrating the development of good communication skills, teamwork, people skills and physical skill proficiency. Participation in this program DOES NOT imply future employment at this facility.

Please contact Jeanne-Marie Kavanagh, Aquatic Director to express your interest in and schedule an interview for this program.

Fall 2010 volunteer opportunities will coincide with our Youth Learn to Swim schedule on Saturdays September 18th-November 20th (Not October 9th and November 6th), possibly from 9:00-11:30 AM. Assignments will depend on the volunteers experience and availability and the appropriateness of volunteer assistance for each class based on enrollment and the needs of the class.
