Poster Contest 2012:
Robert Frost students will compete in our World Language Poster Contest during National Foreign Language Week in March 2012. Students will create posters and be judged by theme and category. Poster categories will range from Best Computer Generated to Most Artistic.
Hispanic Heritage& Culture at Robert Frost:
Our ESL and Spanish language students will host an evening of music, dance and delicious cuisine on March 30, 2012. Ms. Blum , Ms. Freire and Ms. Peragine, ESL/Spanish teachers at the middle school will organize this year's event.
French Dinner at Robert Frost
Our French language students will prepare and serve delicious French cuisine during our 12th Annual French Dinner which will take place on April 27, 2012. Students from grades 6-12 will participate and prepare meals for this event. Ms. Nancy Wolman and Ms. Susan Bollag, French teachers at the middle and high school will organize this year's dinner.
World Language Honor Society Induction:
The World Language Honor Society induction will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 7pm in the Deer Park High School Auditorium.
March 2012:
National Foreign Language Week 2012
On March 5, 2012, school districts throughout the United States will begin celebrating National Foreign Language Week. This recognized week long celebration, highlights the importance of language and culture in our world and schools. Students in our district will be involved in a variety of language learning activities during the month of March.
International Culture Club Fair: March 9, 2012
The ICC will hold an International Fair in the high school cafeteria on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 7pm. The evening will be fun-filled with music, cultural celebrations and food. Come out to learn a new dance too, as club members promote language and culture.
Language Exploration Day:
High school senior language students will visit May Moore and John Quincy Adams in March to promote language learning during National Foreign Language Week. The high school students will prepare lessons for their elementary friends, which will include: songs, activities and games in Spanish, Italian and French. See photos below, from last year's World Language Video Conferencing event.
High School Italian, Spanish and French 12 language students shared lessons in Spanish, Italian and French with students at JQA and May Moore. The high school language students held video conferences with second grade classes using Skype. Students were introduced to colors, songs and expressions using the target language. Next, the students visited JQA and May Moore to meet their LOTE buddies during National Foreign Language Week. This celebration took place in early March.
January 2012:
MIDTERM EXAMINATIONS JANUARY 2012
The following exams will be given as in-class examinations in January 2012, prior to the Regents Exam week:
All grade 9, 10, 12 and Spanish I exams.
Listening Tasks: 1/17
Writing Tasks: 1/18, 1/19
Reading Comprehension Tasks: 1/20
All Speaking Tasks for all Midterm Exams, will be completed in class by 1/10/12.
Grade 11 Language Midterms:
These exams will be administered during testing week. All grade 11 midterms will be administered on Friday morning, January 27, 2012. Only the listening and speaking tasks of this exam will be completed in class, prior to testing week.
Regents Exams 2012
The Comprehensive Regents Examinations in French, Italian and Spanish will no longer be administered due to New York State testing changes and cuts. Students seeking Regents credit will take either the FLACS A, (grade 8) or the FLACS B, ( grade 11) examinations which have replaced the Regents examinations eliminated by NYS. The NYS Regents Exam in French, Italian and Spanish, will not be administered in June 2012.
Both the FLACS A & FLACS B examinations will be administered in June 2012. These regional assessments are 3 hour exams. They follow the exact same format as the Proficiency and Regents examinations they replace.
Final Exams 2012
All grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 World Language final exams, will be administered during testing week in June. All final exams include assessments in the areas of: speaking, listening, reading comprehension and writing.
At Deer Park High School, final exams will be given as follows: Grade 12 exams will be administered the week of June 4th as in-class examinations. All grade 9, 10 and Spanish I classes will test as follows: Listening Comprehension June 5th & 6th, Writing Tasks June 7th & 8th , Reading Comprehension sections will be administered on June 11th with make ups on June 12th. All World Language textbooks will be collected by June 8th.

World Language Honor Society Holiday Party

Student members of the French, Italian and Spanish Honor Society Chapters, will host a holiday celebration for community children, families and friends on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. Come and join our students for some holiday fun. Food, music, songs, skits and crafts will be enjoyed by all

National French Week 2011

The purpose of National French Week is to increase our community's understanding and appreciation of the francophone world. It is interesting to see how the French language and culture has influenced our lives. There dozens of countries and millions of people who speak this beautiful language. The week long celebration is organized by the (AATF) , American Association of Teachers of French. It is an annual celebration of French language and francophone cultures.
NATIONAL FRENCH WEEK/ LA SEMAINE DU FRANÇAIS 2011
Our French students will celebrate National French Week, from Nov. 7th through Nov. 13th. This year, grade 8 students will sample French cuisine and experience some traditional dishes at Voila: The Bistro. In addition, our grade 7 students will enjoy a tour of the Bon Bons Chocolate Shop, where they will learn the art of chocolate making. Naturally, delicious samples of the final product will be made available to all students.
October 2011:
Italian Heritage Month 2011:

Each year the U.S. president signs an executive order designating the month of October as National Italian American Heritage Month. Coinciding with the festivities surrounding Columbus Day, the proclamation is recognition of the many achievements, contributions, and successes of Americans of Italian heritage as well as Italians in America.
Over 5.4 million Italians immigrated to the United States between 1820 and 1992. Today there are over 26 million Americans of Italian heritage in the United States, making them the fifth largest ethnic group. The country was even named after an Italian, the explorer and geographer Amerigo Vespucci.
September 2011:
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month!
September 15 to October 15
In 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson obtained authorization from Congress to proclaim a week in September as National Hispanic Heritage Week. In 1988, the observance was expanded by President Ronald Reagan to a month-long commemoration, beginning September 15 and ending October 15. During this month, America celebrates the culture and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and Spanish-speaking nations in Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
