At the start of the school year, Deer Park elementary art students at JFK, JQA and May Moore explored the message of “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds with art teachers Briana Fayans, Samantha Racano and Ashley Woolsey. Inspired by the book’s themes of encouragement, creativity and perseverance, students designed their own dots to contribute to schoolwide collaborative displays.

The celebration continued on Sept. 15, when students and staff wore polka dots in recognition of International Dot Day.
“Every year, it is always nice to have everyone come together as a community to celebrate,” Fayans said.
