Putting Students First: Deer Park Celebrates Its Board of Education

Deer Park recognized the service and dedication of its Board of Education during the Oct. 27 meeting in celebration of School Board Recognition Month.
This year’s tribute was led by Deer Park High School Principal Charlie Cobb, whose students and staff helped honor the Board’s commitment to the district. The high school’s Phoenix Club vocal ensemble opened the recognition by performing the national anthem and the school alma mater.
“These are supportive people who want to see our kids and programs thrive on a daily basis,” Cobb said before presenting Board President Donna Marie Elliott with a framed “Visions of Excellence” tribute. “Thank you to the Board for all that you do, and for putting our students first all the time.”
“I tell everybody that I feel blessed to be working with this team, who put in so much time and effort to help our kids, teachers and programs,” Superintendent James Cummings said.
Also honored was Deer Park High School alumnus Eric Theiss of New York Empire Police Softball, for donating $10,000 for the purchase of POD Jr. learning stations for students in the May Moore Primary School WINGS program.
