The district recently announced the hiring of two new associate principals: Matthew Comiskey at May Moore Primary School and Lynn Coyle at John Quincy Adams Primary School. They replace Tammy Alcalde, who was promoted to the post of May Moore principal.

Comiskey comes to Deer Park from the Northport-East Northport School District, where he spent the past six years as a curriculum and instructional coordinator. Prior to that he taught for nine years, also in Northport, in both second and third grade and as a math interventionist. A Smithtown resident, he earned his bachelor’s degree in childhood education and master’s degree in special education from LIU Post, and an advanced certificate in educational administration from Stony Brook University.

“I am thrilled to partner with Mrs. Alcalde and the talented faculty and staff at May Moore to continue to foster a student-centered environment where each child can reach their fullest potential,” Comiskey said.

Coyle had worked for the past 19 years as an elementary classroom teacher in the Islip School District, most recently as a second-grade teacher at Maude S. Sherwood Elementary School. Prior to that, she was a New York City classroom teacher for three years. A Yaphank resident, she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Dowling College, a master’s degree in special education from Long Island University and a doctorate degree in administration and leadership from St. John's University.

“I am truly honored to be the new associate principal at JQA,” Coyle said. “I am greatly looking forward to meeting everyone in the community and fostering strong relationships with the students, teachers, parents and administrators. It is important to me that all of our students feel valued and loved while they grow as learners.”
