Candles and Community: Language Excellence Earns Induction

With candlelit ceremony, the high school’s World Language Honor Society chapter inducted 43 new members on April 23. The evening highlighted students who excel in language study and who will provide community service through language in the school and community.

The French Honor Society, or Societe Honoraire de Francais, were led by sponsor Gina Palasciano, adviser Heather Nola, President Jonathan Wagner, Vice President Fatima Humayan, Secretary Vannessa Lawrence and Treasurer Aaron Zhang. New inductees were Anthony Anello, Michael Charumaneeroj, Kevin Guyer and Jasmine Perez.

The Italian Honor Society, or Societa Onoraria Italia, were led by sponsor Palasciano, adviser Josephine Conway, President Gregory Giglio, Vice President Salvatore Arena, Secretary Emily Panzenbeck and Treasurer Diane Coonan-Taylor. New inductees were Ifrah Afzal, Samantha Alburez, Tanya Anand, Brittany Balboa, Michelle Ciccone, Peter Farquharson, Nicolas Gallo, Stephen Lew, Kristina Occhino, Alexis Paulich, Martin Salgado Heredia, Andrew Siford, Rachel Valenti and Alejandro Villa Vasquez.

The Spanish Honor Society, or Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, were led by sponsor and adviser Otilia Mendiolaza, co-adviser Elisabeth Gleason, President Tajriana Haque, Vice President Sabrina Grunseich, Secretary Ramsha Arshad and Treasurer Thomas Sandoval. New inductees were Patrick Adams, Neha Ali, Jarett Bonser, Caitlin Burke, Alexandra Collard, Christopher Cox, Julianna Diaz, Nicholas Gentile, Dominique Guttadauria, Alima Hossain, Adyel Juergensen, Michael Lugo, Richard Monsky, Courtney Morelli, Javaira Nadeem, Joshua Ortiz, Malique Papailler, Kayla Ruiz, Parth Shah, Oliver Tavares, Nicole Tudor and Ryan Verdile.

Students from John Quincy Adams Primary School’s English as a new language program, along with members of the Study Buddy program, began the evening in song by performing “What a Wonderful World.” Families and guests gathered after the induction to enjoy refreshments in the high school cafe.

“It was a very special evening for our department, the students and their families,” said Palasciano, the districtwide curriculum associate for world languages and ENL. “My congratulations to all of the new inductees.”
