At the Deer Park School District’s May 30 Board of Education meeting, personnel were honored for their years of dedicated service, and retiring and newly tenured administrators, teachers and staff were recognized.

Recognized for their decades of service were Kathryn Attard, Angela Baker, Robert Brennan, Carla DeVito, Josephine Gambale, Maryann Giuliano, Eric Gottesman, Michael Livorno, Kristen Lombardo, Salvatore Mascolo, Susan Mehr, Dean Militello, Daryn Perry, Francine Pullman, Amy Rocchetta, Andrea Schwint and Scott Surdi for 25 years; Michael Gennaro, Alicia Konecny, Brian Kruger, Louis Nicolosi and Linda Stow for 30 years; and Philomena Otto for 40 years.

“Tonight, we get the opportunity to recognize our staff for the many years of love and devotion that they have given to this district,” Board President Donna Marie Elliot said. “Whether 25, 30 or 40 years of dedication, no matter their role, they have been and continue to be a very important part of this Deer Park family. We thank them for helping to make Deer Park as special as it is.”

Nineteen retiring staff members – teachers Ann Bullis, Lauren Chipkin, Teresa Cupolo, Patricia Katz, Brian Kruger, Christine Meckley and Susan Pannell; teaching assistants Gail Dunne, Margo Kilkelly and Ann Pastore; and non-instructional employees Donald Buhrmeister, Michael Fullam, Sonia Hidalgo, Alison Lacoff, Patti Maurio, Joseph Orecchio, Nancy Ragone, Jose Seda and Teresa Smith – were all recognized for their important contributions to the district and its students.

“We recognize the blood, sweat and the tears, and how much dedication you put in, Superintendent James Cummings said. “Wherever in the district you worked, that place will not be the same without you.”

Congratulated for receiving tenure were District Administrator of Instructional Technology Jay Murphy; Curriculum Associate for ELA, Reading, and Library 6-12 Justin Uliano; Deer Park High School Associate Principal Garret Noblett; John F. Kennedy Intermediate School Principal Kelly Benson and Associate Principal Marilin Guiterrez; Deer Park High School social studies teacher Joseph Alo, math teacher Julissa Larkin, science teacher Kevin Richards, special education teacher Vincent Russo and science teacher Olivia Vilardi-Perez; Robert Frost Middle School technology teacher Jeffrey Cifelli, special education teacher Nicole Sharkey and world language teacher Oscar Villalobos; John F. Kennedy Intermediate School teacher Zachary King; John Quincy Adams Primary School elementary teacher Erica Berdugo and special education teacher Tess Maloney; and May Moore Primary School elementary teacher Lindsay Barry.

“We are excited to celebrate you all and the major accomplishment you have achieved,” Elliott said. “Thank you for what you do, day in and day out. Together, we are one Deer Park – proud, strong, talented and devoted to the successes of our children and our community.”
