Deer Park High School’s French Honor Society brought a vibrant and engaging cultural experience to May Moore Elementary School students during a recent visit, using a “Learn French Words” magazine they had designed.

The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students and teachers alike were greeted with warm “bonjour” and “salut” by the honor society members, creating an immersive French-speaking environment. The educational journey began with a captivating exploration of colors, days of the week, fruits, vegetables, body parts, animals and types of weather in French, using interactive activities such as writing exercises and matching games. The winter-themed segment added a seasonal touch, with students enthusiastically participating in matching activities related to winter terms and clothing. The creative side of learning was fostered through coloring pages, while the intellectual curiosity of the students was sparked with word searches.

As a meaningful addition to the cultural exchange, the French Honor Society shared insights about Haiti and an interview with one of the high school’s Haitian students, fostering a global perspective and enriching the students’ understanding of French-speaking cultures.

“Thank you to May Moore’s teachers for inviting us to their classrooms,” said Deer Park High School Associate Principal Dr. Dina Pannone. “We were so impressed with the students and their enthusiasm to learn the French language.”
