Two members of the Deer Park High School varsity boys swimming and diving team recently qualified for the New York State championships in Ithaca.

Senior diver Tyler Romero, who took first place at the league and county championships, represented Suffolk County and Deer Park at states. Romero will be going on to compete at the collegiate level in diving at Adelphi University.

Freshman swimmer Talon Silverstein, who won first place at the league championships in the 100-meter butterfly, represented Deer Park as the youngest competitor from Suffolk County in that event.

Additionally, Romero was named Suffolk County Diver of the Year at the Section XI Swimming and Diving awards dinner, a prestigious honor voted on by all the county's swim coaches.
